New Blogging Direction

Written by David Dunn on June 29, 2008 – 10:38 am

Hi everyone that may or may not be reading this blog post (just realised it’s a bit silly saying that as you’re obviously reading it right now and those that aren’t can’t read it… if that any sense!)

I’ve decided that Buy Me A Ferrari is still going to be a blog about making money but it isn’t just going to be about making money online. I’m going to keep track of all my money making (and money losing) in my life.

This therefore includes anything made online or offline and also anything I spend online and offline.

I’ve decided to do this as I have just got myself a weekend job at Mercedes-Benz of Newcastle on reception. I kind of stumbled upon this job accidentally as I was doing my second work experience there (in the sales department) and it was revealed that there was a vacancy on weekends - which is ideal when I am still at school.

The wage is £6.50 per hour and initially I will be working 2pm to 5pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on a Sunday. Once the girl that is currently doing 8:30am to 2pm leaves I will also be doing the hours that she is.

Hopefully I won’t end up spending it as quickly as I earn it but I will be detailing everything like that on this blog, both the highs and the lows.

The second income I have at the moment is EMA (Education Maintenance Allowance), which currently stands at £30 per week, only if I was in school for the full five days the previous week. So if I am ill one day the previous week I won’t receive it at all.

That also reminds me that I need to fill out and get sent off the new EMA form for next year at sixth form.

I’ll leave it at that for the moment, any comment about the new ideas would be appreciated, whether they be negative or positive.

Change in Advertising Prices

Written by David Dunn on January 29, 2008 – 9:25 pm

I recently came across an interesting forum post by Viraj on the Blogger to Blogger forum - the post itself was asking why bloggers still list their prices in dollars rather than pounds.

This made me think as I am from the United Kingdom and therefore my primary currency is GBP (Great British Pounds), however, I still charge for advertising in dollars.

At the time of writing my advertising page, I thought that listing my prices in dollars would be more widely accepted with most viewers coming from the US. Thinking about it now though, even if the advertiser is from the States, there’s no reason why they couldn’t pay in pounds using Paypal.

If I’m advertising somewhere, I have to pay in dollars usually so can’t see it being much of a problem if people have to pay me in pounds.

I’m now off to update my advertise page with updated prices.

Let’s see how this turns out, if you have any comments let me know as I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Entrecard

Written by David Dunn on January 23, 2008 – 9:32 pm

Another great source of traffic for both of my blogs has been Entrecard. An idea where you can swap virtual business cards, to other site owner in the form of 125×125 buttons.

Other members of Entrecard see your button on the Entrecard website and click through to drop their own card into your Entrecard dashboard.

Dropping your card on another blog with Entrecard installed earns you one credit and someone else dropping their card onto your dashboard also gives you a credit.

Now, these credits can be spent on advertising on other people’s Entrecard, not only this, but now they have implemented a shop where people sell various things like graphic design, templates, raffle tickets and more.

Does Entrecard bring me decent traffic?

Every time I begin to talk about Entrecard to other bloggers, whether it be on message boards or on MSN it always leads to a discussion as to whether the traffic from Entrecard brings decent traffic or not.

First of all, it does bring a lot of traffic to your blog, especially if you become popular on Entrecard. However, does this mean that the people who visit are visiting to read my posts or whether they are just coming to drop their card.

Whether or not it is decent is very much debatable but one thing can be said; Entrecard should still boost your Alexa rank a bit as visitors are visitors, doesn’t really matter whether they’re reading your content or not.

I personally always try to read at least the two most recent articles on the blogs I drop my card on - sometimes I find some decent stuff too. Unfortunately I can’t say whether or not people are doing the same in return. I’d like to say they were but there’s no way I’d bet my bank balance on it!

What do you think? Are you visiting from Entrecard? If so, thanks for actually reading some of my stuff - really do appreciate it. Leave a comment and let me know.
